I am teaching jr.high in Naperville - its "spirit week" and the kids dress up differently everyday (remember those?). Anyway, tomorrow is "A Day back in Time" day and they are suppose to dress like the "oldies"....code for the 80's!! One of my homeroom students asked me what people dressed like in the 80's and it prompted be to look at our class site (which I hadn't done in a while). As I was wondering through, I found the few pictures that were posted from a get-together in 2005...being in the Chicago area, I don't get home much since my parents are in Fla 6-mo out of the year and when they are home, my schedule just never seems to allow it. I LOVED looking at the pictures - everyone looks GREAT...it doesn't seem like we are "looking" any older. I have had a little contact with Jen (McCue) Stapleton and missed an opportunity to see her...looking through the site just got me to thinking - I look forward to a possible 20-year reunion! Please keep me posted. Take care, everyone! Tracey
Thanks for cleaning up the site.

Don't Shop at Best Value in Springfield - (1) reply

For those of you who still live in the Springfield area -- Do not shop at or donate to the Best Value Thrift Center located on Wabash in Springfield!!! Unsuspecting and otherwise good-intentioned people are dumping truckloads of clothes and other goods at the store's many bins around town. Do they realize that "someone" -- I'll get to that in a minute! -- is taking the "donations", selling them, and pocketing the profit? It's a for-profit store!! Why not take all that stuff to Goodwill or Salvation Army -- nonprofit organizations who use their profits to help people with disabilities and those less fortunate. If that doesn't inspire you to do your business with the nonprofits instead of Best Value, hopefully this will: The owner of Best Value is Larry Hupp, the former director of Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries. If you'll remember, he and his assistant were asked to resign in late 2005 after the U.S. Attorney General office's efforts "resulted in Larry Hupp’s and Debra Neece’s admission of wrongdoing against the very individuals they were charged with supporting." (See http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/ilc/press/2005/november/goodwill%20resignation%20ptd%20news.pdf or http://www.illinoistimes.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A5257). Seems Mr. Hupp is on a mission to ruin Goodwill -- if he can't destroy it while at its helm, he seems intent to do so as a competitor. Please share this message with anyone lives in the Springfield area.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Knew that they were a for profit organization but not that Larry Hupp was running it.

Immunizations
Posted on 11/06/2005 by Kathleen Alcorn Notify me when this message receives a reply.Reply to this Message[Reply to this message]
The news is about to show a skin infection that is going around; looks like large patches of infected athlete's foot on extremities. I saw a friend of mine recently at a wedding. She's been a part of the New Orleans chaos and she has big red welted scars from mosquito bites that got infected with staph. She brought her brother to the hospital before the wedding to get medicine for his cancer remission and they grabbed her instead and gave her a ton of shots. It was nasty, and she’s fortunate that is all she got. A few weeks after Katrina, the media said that there would be an outbreak of Hepatitis C, shingella, and 2 others I forgot; I think ecoli is one of them. They have immunized the people in New Orleans who have stayed in the area (probably only those with health insurance) ***NEWS said the skin infection is staph*** but those who have left NO, who knows how many days they were there before they left in the flooded waters (stagnant with sewage), were not. This staph infection spreading in the SE is found mostly at daycares, schools, and any other congested public place; it is spread by skin to skin contact from the sores. If you do not have health insurance, and you have children, go to the health department. In short, please get your kids immunized and yourselves too; I think this is going to get ugly. I think that we are going to see alot of new diseases because of Katrina too; with these microorganisms in the water which has saturated the walls and buildings of NO along with the mold, these things are going to be around for a long time and mutate into other diseases, especially when later renovations are done to the buildings and old sheet rock, etc are torn down. David said the only way to prevent future diseases from Katrina is to burn NO and all of the areas that remained flooded for an extended period of time. Please teach your family that “hovering” over public toilets is best, as well as soap and water. The habit of washing hands with soap and water is good; it is a sure way to keep most cooties away and that is important. Shower immediately with soap and water after using public pools, everywhere and thoroughly. Finally, do not eat any mollusks like clams or oysters for at least 2 years, because there is no way you can know that they did not come out of the Gulf of Mexico. Not trying to freak you out, but prevention is everything. Better safe than sorry when kids are involved; they need their parents healthy too. Have a great weekend.

I was wondering if it might be possible to add a picture or two to the site. There was a time where it was possible, but that's been a few years ago. I'd think it would be relatively easy to add either a family/current picture area to each individual or a "picture board" for us to post current or family pictures. Sort of an on-line reunion place since many of us won't be able to make a reunion set on a specific date... much like this site was likely intended to do. Just my 2 cents...

20 YEAR REUNION - (3) replies

AFTER TALKING WITH A BUNCH OF OUR CLASSMATES, I THINK IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA IF WE HAVE AN ACTUAL COMMITTEE OR GROUP TO PLAN OUR 20TH REUNION. MAYBE GET TOGETHER 1 YEAR PRIOR AND START WORKING TOGETHER ON SOME IDEAS. I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE JUST HEARD WE WERE HAVING A PICNIC FOR OUR 15 YEAR AND THERE DIDN'T SEEM TO BE ANY CHOICES OR OTHER IDEAS MENTIONED. OBVIOUSLY, THAT DID NOT GO OVER REALLY WELL. NOT THAT WE HAVE TO HAVE ALCOHOL TO HAVE A GOOD TIME, BUT SOMETHING FOR THE ADULTS IN THE EVENING HOURS SEEMS PREFERABLE...AT LEAST FROM WHO I'VE TALKED TO. A SMALL PICNIC (2-3 HRS) MIGHT BE GOOD DURING THE DAY, BUT WE NEED AN EVENT FOR US LATER....EVEN IF IT'S A CASUAL GET TOGETHER AT THE BARS...WHATEVER. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE AN EXPENSIVE SIT DOWN DINNER. I KNOW KRISTIE PFISTER (HAYES) HAD SOME REALLY FUN IDEAS. ANYWAY, JUST WANTED TO PUT THAT OUT THERE. I HOPE MOST OF YOU AGREE AND ALSO VOLUNTEER TO HELP WHEN THE NEXT REUNION ROLLS AROUND. IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A REALLY GOOD TURN OUT. TAKE CARE

Well, it looks like the Phillips family isn't going to be able to make the reunion after all. We are moving to the Phoenix area in August, but thought we'd still be around on the 13th. Turns out, our house sold to the first couple who looked at it on the first day it was listed. So...we're outta here!!! I will miss catching up with you all and seeing everyone's cute kids. By the way, who all lives in AZ? I saw that Paul Hollinshead lives down is Sierra Vista and Lisa Moon lives in Goodyear. Anyone else?
